Entry-Level Architect (Buildings and Enclosures)

Perry & Associates is a structural engineering firm located in downtown Chicago. We provide structural and forensic engineering services for a wide variety of clients including architects, building management companies, private businesses and individuals.
About the Position
We are seeking entry-level architecture candidates with an interest in design, investigation, analysis, and evaluation of existing building structures and enclosures. As an entry-level architect, you will work under the direct supervision of a licensed architect and structural engineers to deliver projects relating to existing building structures and envelopes. Your role will include field investigations to document existing conditions, forensic analyses of existing envelope systems due to non-performance and/or failure, development of repair details and authoring of technical reports. Typical projects will include a variety of modern and historic materials and building enclosures, such as masonry bearing wall systems and window/curtain walls. Additional duties include construction site observations and drafting of structural plans and details under the direction of staff engineers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform local field investigations to document existing conditions and ongoing construction projects
Assist in the development and detailing of project designs for existing building envelopes and structures
Assist experienced staff in authoring of technical reports and project correspondence
Attendance and participation in project meetings with clients and other design professionals under the supervision of experienced staff
Review and interpret technical documents and designs
Review and evaluate building codes and specifications to inform designs and analyses
What You’ll Need
MS in architecture with a focus on structures
0 – 5 years of related architecture experience. Experience with existing building enclosures is preferred.
Willingness to adapt to new project types and tasks
Well organized and able to work in a team environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Able to perform physical field work, including climbing ladders, performing visual observations from afar/rooftops/scaffolding, using precision instruments, etc.
Current U.S. driver’s license (required)
Proficiency with AutoCAD
Legal ability to work in the United States
