Civil Engineering Technician (Field / CAD)

Perry & Associates is a structural engineering firm located in downtown Chicago. We provide structural and forensic engineering services for a wide variety of clients including architects, building management companies, private businesses and individuals.
About the Position
We are seeking a civil engineering technician with interest and/or experience in existing building structures. As an engineering technician, you will work under the direction of staff engineers to assist in the development of constructions drawings and report documents for projects relating to new and existing building structures and envelopes. Your role will include field investigations to document existing conditions, development of structural and architectural plans and details in AutoCAD, and development of report figures, and similar tasks. You will be exposed to many building and project types including residential, educational, and commercial projects utilizing steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structural systems. Additional duties include assisting in construction site observations and documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform local field investigations to document existing conditions and ongoing construction projects
Assist in the drafting of construction documents for projects including structural and architectural plans and details
Review and interpret technical markups from staff engineers and enter the appropriate information into AutoCAD
Assist in the development of report figures
Maintain project files including drawings files and associated records of documents transmitted and received.
Complete tasks assigned by staff engineers in a timely manner to ensure deadlines are met
What You’ll Need
Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent
0 – 3 years of related architecture or structural engineering support experience. Experience with existing buildings is preferred
Willingness to adapt to new project types and tasks
Well organized and able to work in a team environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Able to perform physical field work, including climbing ladders, performing visual observations from afar/rooftops/scaffolding, using precision instruments, etc.
Current U.S. driver’s license (required)
Proficiency with AutoCAD
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Legal ability to work in the United States
